Program Policies

Massage Program Policies

Before beginning your studies at Advanced Fuller School of Massage, it is important to understand the policies that shape your experience. These guidelines bring structure, support, and clarity across attendance, academic expectations, dress code, and holiday schedules.

Attendance and Tardiness

Professionalism begins with showing up prepared and on time. These thresholds apply:

  • Tardy means 5 or more minutes late.
  • Arriving 15 minutes late, or three late arrivals, counts as one unexcused absence.
  • Three unexcused absences results in probation.
  • All missed time must be made up within two weeks of the absence unless otherwise scheduled.
  • Notify the office if you will be absent; documentation may be requested for extended absences.

An unresolved pattern of absences or tardiness may result in probation or dismissal.

Leave of Absence

A temporary leave of absence may be granted for up to four classes for documented reasons. Missed coursework must be made up within two weeks of return; tutorial fees may apply.

Satisfactory Academic Progress and Probation

Progress is measured through written quizzes, practical evaluations, professionalism, and attendance. Students must meet passing standards and complete scheduled hours on time.

  • If you fall behind, we will create a written improvement plan with your instructor.
  • Probation is issued via written letter for policy or progress issues; duration is set by the Director. Students must make up all classwork, tests, and practicals before returning to good standing.
  • Ongoing violations or missed milestones may result in dismissal.

For licensure and exam details, see the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards exam overview and the Virginia Board of Nursing.

Dress Code and Hygiene

  • Neat, modest clothing; short sleeve collared shirts are required (layers permitted).
  • No jeans, sweatpants, tank tops, spandex, or jean shorts. Leggings are allowed only with a top that covers the gluteal area.
  • Maintain hygiene. Cover tattoos and remove visible piercings during class and clinic unless otherwise approved.
  • Closed toe shoes are recommended for safety around equipment.

Uniforms are not required, but a professional appearance is part of training.

Personal Electronics

Laptops, phones, and tablets are welcome when used for classwork. Personal use belongs on breaks. Recording audio or video requires instructor approval and may not be shared without consent.

Classroom Access Hours

The main classroom is open for supervised practice seven days a week, generally from 8:30 in the morning to 9:00 in the evening. Access may vary for holidays, workshops, or facility updates. Please sign in and follow setup and cleanup guidelines.

Essential Skills and Conduct

Massage requires stamina, sustained pressure, and consistent body mechanics. You will adjust tables, stand for long periods, communicate clearly, and maintain professional boundaries within scope of practice.

We are committed to accessibility. Reasonable accommodations are available provided essential skills can still be performed safely. Contact our office before your start date.
